The Scaffolding is Going Up!

If you have been past the Old Town Hall in the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed a profusion of scaffolding poles appearing at the rear and front of the building.

This scaffolding will continue to grow until it covers the roof, enabling a temporary cover while the roof is worked on.
Inside, the building has been stripped out. The photos below, taken in the Magistrates’ Retiring Room show the original wallpaper uncovered. It looks like the wood effect is the original layer, with a Victorian neutral flower pattern as the next layer and a darker floral pattern on top.
We will be doing our best to preserve some of these in situ for viewing once the building re-opens. We will also be restoring and returning the cast iron fireplace uncovered, which is by Thomas Jeckyll for Barnard, Bishop and Barnard dated circa 1880.
