How the Old Town Hall will look!

Bourne Town Hall Trust is delighted to announce that planning permission has been officially sought for the Old Town Hall building.

These new detailed plans have been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with the aim of regenerating the building, restoring its Georgian features and modernising its accessibility. If the plans are approved, this will see one of the major milestones we need to complete to allow the full National Lottery Heritage Fund proposal to be submitted for the delivery phase of the project later this summer.

The plans show how the exterior of the building will remain much the same; our new entrance will be through the northern arch with automatic doors into a new reception area.

However we do also intend to replace the clocktower which had to be removed after a fire in 1932.

Inside, the Shambles bar area will be opened up to reveal the line of original arches.

This area will remain as a key room for events and is able to be closed off from the front reception.

We also intend to have doors to the side which open into the alleyway, exactly as happened with the shambles and market when the building first opened.

This is a view of the refurbished courtroom upstairs.

With a newly installed lift, accessibility becomes possible to our first floor event space.

There’ll be retractable seating which will allow the space to be used in multiple ways.

A ramp to the stage provides further accessibility for the performance area too.

All of this will be possible thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Architectural Heritage Fund, both of vital support to our project.
