As part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund project, we are required to run several pilot or trial activities, in the vein of the final vision, with a view to finding out what might work best.
Our first of these starts this month and is titled: 'The Old Town Hall Research Project'
We are looking to research the people behind the building's rich history and we need volunteers to help us do that.
As you may know, many donors gave money towards the construction of the building in 1821 and their names are immortalised on a wooden board displayed in the old courtroom. We intend to find out more about these benefactors: what did they do, where did they live, are there living descendants in the area still today?
We'll also be looking at old court cases which were held in the upstairs courtroom: what were the more interesting or intriguing cases held there? What sort of punishments were handed out from the judges in Bourne? Where might a person convicted in Bourne have served their sentence?
If you think you may be interested in joining us, please click through to our website https://bournetownhall.org.uk/events to register your interest.
We're going to have three information sessions. If you can make it to one or all of them, that's great, please register through TicketSource. If you can't make it to any of them, please email to register your interest and we'll ensure that you receive an information pack.
If you have experience, that's great. If you wouldn't know where to start, don't worry, we will provide ideas of resources and some tips for research.
We're really excited to be starting on this voyage of historical discovery with you!
