Kerry Banner is an Associate Architect at Allan Joyce Architects Ltd
We asked Kerry a few questions about her time spent with Bourne Town Hall Trust:
How are you helping Bourne Town Hall Trust with their regeneration project?
I am the project architect and principal designer for the project responsible for leading the design team to restore The Old Town Hall back to its former glory. Together with my colleagues, founder Allan Joyce, and Senior Architectural Designer Olena Tsymbaliuk, we have been carefully studying the building and using that information to propose careful conservation repairs and innovative architectural design that will transform the building into a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable community arts space that is respectful of its heritage.
Which is your favourite part of the Old Town Hall building?
There are so many beautiful and interesting parts of the building, it is impossible to choose a favourite! It has been so exciting uncovering the hidden features like the magnificent, curved ceiling complete with moulded cupola vent that was hiding behind the former office suspended ceiling tiles and to imagine this being restored one day for everyone to enjoy.
What have you discovered which is surprising/interesting/unexpected while working on this project?
The Old Town Hall originated as a gift for the people of Bourne from 2nd Marquis of Exeter and 123 local people who donated their money towards the cause. Today, the legacy of that gift is continued through the strong community spirit, vision and dedication shown by the enthusiastic trustees and volunteers that drive the project forward. I can’t wait to see the dream realised and the building restored for the enjoyment and benefit of the community as it was always intended.
It all sounds very positive and interesting, thank you so much for keeping us all informed 👍😀
