We asked Bebhinn, Philippa and Suzanne a few questions about their time spent with Bourne Town Hall Trust:
How are you helping Bourne Town Hall Trust with their regeneration project?
We're designers working in the heritage and culture sector. Our job is to use our design skills to bring the stories of the Old Town Hall's past to life with an interactive exhibition. As part of our work, we've been diving into the fascinating history of Old Town Hall, finding out about the bustling Shambles market that was once on the ground floor, the fire brigade that was stationed here and the court cases held on the first floor for almost 150 years.
Which is your favourite part of the Old Town Hall building?
Each room in the Old Town Hall tells a different story. We love the textures of The Shambles walls, the brick archways and rough limestone behind the current bar. The court room is grand with its tall windows and lofty ceilings. Its viewing gallery is a real gem, when you sit up there you can almost step back in time and imagine people peering down on a court case, whispering to each other as they watch the trial unfold.
What have you discovered which is surprising/interesting/unexpected while working on this project?
The wide range of events currently on offer at the Old Town Hall! Our team is so impressed by the energy and enthusiasm of the Trust and their ability to turn the building into a hive of activity. If this is what can be achieved in a building desperately in need of rescuing, then it is going to be an amazing asset to the town and surrounding area after this project is complete!
