All The Bells and Whistles

Hopefully you know the story about our clocktower already?
If you don't, here's a quick summary: fire broke out in the clocktower of Bourne Town Hall in February 1932. Luckily the fire brigade were housed in the building at the time and they quickly dowsed the fire and saved the building. However the damage to the clocktower meant that it needed to be removed.

This week, a key part of the original clocktower was removed from the Old Town Hall - the bell!
Leigh Williams, site manager for Probus Construction, writes:
Plenty of sweat and determination from the team this week as we carefully located and removed the original bell from Bourne Town Hall — no small task in the recent heat. This bell is one of the last surviving elements of the historic clock tower!
It’s now safely out of the structure and ready for specialist refurbishment before being reinstated into the new iteration of the clock tower. A rare opportunity to preserve and re‑use original heritage components, and a proud moment for everyone involved in bringing this Grade II listed landmark back to life.
We plan to reinstate the clocktower as part of the restoration and transformation plans; the bell will chime again too, but only during daytime hours.
