A Temporary Roof for the Next Stage

If you have been through Bourne town centre in the last 5 weeks, you may have noticed the scaffolding gradually growing over the Old Town Hall building, its construction a feat in itself!

Leigh Williams, site manager for Probus Construction, explains all:

Our epic scaffold build has officially wrapped up after a solid five‑week programme — a huge effort from the Lysander team who’ve grafted nonstop to get this temporary roof system in place. Given the maze of intersecting roof pitches across the Town Hall, this has been a seriously complex structure to design, erect, and make safe for access! 💪🏻
With the temporary roof now fully installed, we can begin stripping the old tiles across the entire building. This opens the door for a full condition assessment of the historic roof structures, allowing our timber preservation consultant, architect and structural engineer to get in, inspect, and identify any treatments or structural defects that need addressing before our carpentry contractor begins adapting and strengthening the roof.🪚🔨
Meanwhile, works inside the building are pushing ahead in parallel — structural alterations are progressing well, with new steelwork starting to go in.
All in all, it’s been a busy few weeks on site and a real turning point in the programme. We’re finally moving from strip‑out and enabling works into the phase where we start putting this incredible building back together.
